Concerning the BP incident etc...I guess I'm just a simple man. If I was the BP CEO along with the shareholders / stakeholders,..with $16B in profit per quarter and a $10B set-aside fund, I would do things the easier way. Write the checks, pay the claims, pay the fine and take the heat off and be the hero in the end.
Louisiana Gov. Claims and insists, that he and the workers know how to clean up the Gulf Coast, somehow I believe him. Well write the check and have him (the Gov.), his workers, and the Army-Corps of Engineers have at it. In addition, many Engineers around the world especially in the U.S., are making claims that, they have the fix for capping and collecting the spill. Well, use the $10B 'set-aside' and fund coordinate the effort, pay them to come forward with their ideas and see! Next, process and expedite the massive amounts of claims.
Re-assign the greedy company Lawyers ( who are probably advising the company to stall, so that they can pocket the lawsuit fees and just pay the fines for the accident) to work on removing all and any administrative block(s) 'red-tape' and start processing claims asap! Also, hire additional clerks, claims-adjusters and the like (sub-contract), to do whatever it takes to absorb the added load.
The final Bill plus the Fine on BP for negligence, incompetence and loss would be approx. $20B. This will take time but, in the end a 'win-win' especially when the 'Fix' is the problem and not the 'Funding' Then, the final move ( seeing that many still want blood ) and I believe is the right thing to do, the CEO and the Executive Management need to 'cash-out' and remove themselves. Change the ‘guard’, and allow another Team to take the Company forward.
The President should order the Navy and the Coast Guard to oversee and monitor the entire evolution with Tankers and manpower in place standing-by. Coast Guard Commander Thad Allen is doing a great job in providing updates and leadership and coordination.
The U.S. Attorney General needs to stop talking, making threats, and if he is that concerned, he can appoint himself to coordinate and manage and ensure payments are made asap and the expediting of the Claims etc. I think this plan would be a great start.
